Burundi is one of the most densely populated and poorest countries on the African continent. Burundi has endured sianificant conflicts, most notably its civil war from 1993 to 2005. rooted in longstanding ethnic tensions between the Hutu majority and Tutsi minority, which have left Burundi with significant human rights challenges, includina political repression, restricted freedom of speech, abuses within detention centers and malnutrition.
