What’s it about
UPDATE: Over half way there!!
Recently, friends of mine were involved in finding an abandoned baby elephant, stuck in a man-made watering hole in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. Rangers tried to find the baby's herd, but it was clear she had been alone for days. Members of The Kilimanjaro Animal C.R.E.W. trekked many hours to rescue the elephant and transport her back to their site at Makoa Farm where she's now recuperating.
The Kilimanjaro Animal C.R.E.W. saves hundreds of animals, domestic and wild, with similar stories to that baby elephant. Most have been released back into the wild; some, whose injuries were too severe to recover completely, are now permanent residents of the Farm which sits at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is the only place in Tanzania where wild animals can receive professional in-patient care. Right now, the priority animals are 2 orphaned elephants, 2 zebra foals, several bushbabies, a subadult crowned eagle, numerous owls, and two serval kittens.
It costs an average of $15,000 per month to maintain the Farm and care for the animals. The Kilimanjaro Animal C.R.E.W. operates thanks to donations, revenue from horse riding safaris and visitors at the facilities. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically reducing tourism, their income is significantly down.
I was raised in Tanzania and am currently in the country on a gap year from university. I have witnessed the amazing work that The Kilimanjaro Animal C.R.E.W. is doing both in caring for animals and educating others (especially children) about conservation and respecting wildlife. Please help me support this wonderful organization that is currently functioning with a dearth of resources.
Thank you everyone for your kindness and generosity!
