Sarah Ioannides Run for Global Education

On April 28th, I will be running a half marathon with the Tacoma City Marathon Association. Please help me to raise money for Visions for Children, a non-profit focused on educational justice in areas impacted by war or crisis. 

There is so much need in the world, and one of the first steps to alleviate the multiple crises we face, is education. Education enables children to broaden their horizons, become more self-confident, show more solidarity and learn to lead their lives in a self-determined way. Collectively, education helps to strengthen civil society. This leads to an improvement in political understanding, a growing sense of responsibility in the fight against corruption and an increasing demand for human rights – such as women’s rights.

For the past 18 years, the non-governmental organization Visions for Children has been active in areas of crisis, such as Afghanistan and Uganda. Their work focuses on the improvement of learning conditions and educational quality at public schools. 

For this purpose, school buildings and sanitary facilities are being improved and classrooms equipped with fundamental supplies. Students, teachers and the wider community are being provided with essential materials and training to ensure long term success. Visions for Children thus provides the basic conditions necessary for high-quality learning in line with the fourth sustainability goal of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030.

I learnt about this charity through a former Aupair of ours who spent 2 years with our family and now is head of communications with Visions for Children.

I believe in the importance of education, for everyone. I believe in the work & transparency of Visions for Children and that they will put the money to the greatest needs with their current projects.
