WHY ARE THE HURRICANES SUPPORTING STREET CHILD IN UKRAINE?
The Hamburg Hurricanes have been support Street Child and their projects in Sierra Leone for almost six years now and while we are still raising money for our Wash Project together with Street Child, the outbreak of war and the continued worsening of the situation in Ukraine made us feel that we had to take action to help the people most in need as a result of this tragic conflict.

We have chosen to support “Street Child - Ukraine Crisis Appeal” by Street Child Deutschland e.V. because they have been the official club charity of the Hamburg Hurricanes since 2016 which means we can trust the great work they are doing and will also have access to updates direct from Ukraine on how our money has been used. 

SUPPORTING FRONTLINE ORGANISATIONS 

Street Child believes that local organisations know best, and have the most trusted relationships with the people they serve. They also know how and where to source essential items quickly and at lower cost, even when cash is scarce. Our aim is to ensure that local NGOs helping children in their communities have the resources they need to respond rapidly and effectively to changing circumstances.

Street Child is recognised for its agility in emergencies: donations through thier Ukraine Crisis Appeal will swiftly be in the hands of vetted local partners, making a real difference to the people who need it most. 

Street Child is working with a range of NGO partners across Ukraine who are providing humanitarian relief to families who cannot flee and people displaced from other cities. They are also identifying local NGOs in neighbouring countries, who are leading an incredible effort to provide new arrivals with the basics to adapt to life in a new country, as well as psychosocial and mental health support to address the upheaval they have experienced in recent weeks.
