During the corona pandemic SOS Children's Villages are not abandoning the children. This is how the SOS Children's Villages with a focus on Africa are helping:

Education and prevention: to contain the spread of the Corona virus, education and prevention are the order of the day. SOS staff inform children, families and communities how to protect themselves from infection, for example by washing their hands and keeping a social distance. Families are also provided with hygiene items and cleaning products.
Medical care: SOS medical centres are caring for the sick and supporting local health systems: nurses and doctors are given protective kits - essential to maintain operations during the Corona pandemic. Staff are trained to detect Corona infections with laboratory tests. We are setting up isolation wards for sick people. Mobile SOS health teams are on standby to provide quarantine care to families and communities.
Securing basic needs and helping people to help themselves: The first thing SOS Children's Villages does is support families who are acutely at risk of breaking up by providing them with food. In the next step, parents are empowered to help themselves: through further training or micro-credits for setting up a small business. In this way, we strengthen families so that they can give their children a perspective through their own efforts.
Care for parentless children: We are expanding our care services for children who lose their parents due to the virus, e.g. by supporting foster families.
Education: In more and more countries, schools are closing as a prevention measure. SOS therefore supports homeschooling to enable children to access education now. SOS Family Assistance provides support for school fees and learning materials. Massive unemployment also necessitates greater investment in youth training and employment programmes.
Child protection: Poverty and crises lead to massive violations of children's rights. Children have to do child labour, they are threatened by child trafficking and sexual exploitation, girls are married off. Parentless children are particularly at risk. SOS social workers are involved in child protection in communities.
Psychological support: Families lose their livelihoods, relatives die, sick people are stigmatised. Families in crisis situations also need therapeutic support - and our SOS psychologists are often the only ones on the ground who can assist children and families here.
