Hygiene education & lavatories for Benin schools

Knowing the educational projects of the German student initiative Weitblick e.V. and the NGO E.S.I. located in Benin for many years and having worked for them myself recently as a volunteer, I want to financially support what we found to be most urging currently. 

 

Besides other educational projects such as consulting and financing start-ups or building up professional trainings, E.S.I. and Weitblick have built multiple high schools in the past years with measureable success in education and community impact. 

However, the schools are missing lavatories, running water and the respective needed education in hygiene for the students. Currently this lack leads to infections and to students going home to go to the toilet without returning to school. Lacking education in hygiene is especially an issue in times of the Corona crisis and students in remote villages could educate their whole families. 

 

With the needed money, we would start a pilot project of building a lavatory for one school which is already chosen based on local assessment of the most urgent need in the area of Dogbo, Benin (total cost split is available to me if anyone interested). The lavatory will be built by a local company we trust and have worked with and it will also meet the Unicef standards. In addition, we will co-operate with another local NGO specialized in hygiene education to teach the students at the opening but will also return for an ongoing education at the school and therefore the whole community.
Let me emphazise, that the money will be directly transferred from me to E.S.I. and all of it will go only into the construction and education costs. There is no admin or any other hidden costs involved and everything will be solved locally without external influence.
