Worum es geht
Oceans represent the most important habitat for animals and plants. More than 70% of the earth’s surface is covered by water - the source of life.
The impacts of Globalization heavily harm this eco system by polluting it with plastic waste.
Situated in the North Sea, the island of Helgoland is the only german offshore island. It‘s coasts represent unique habitats for many shorebirds like the gannets (Basstölpel).
Due to the islands little vegetation, the gannets began to build their nests out of plastic waste short before breeding season.
Less is known about the impact of plastic nests on the bird population. Dead chicks were found strangled in plastic parts. A shrinking population might be possible. An endangered species on this island is possible.
Donate 1€ (or more) and get one vegan „vanstories“ eco sticker as a symbol of #responsiblevanlife to support regional researchers /volunteers and their scientific work on that topic.
The goal is to learn more about the impact of plastic nests on birds, find alternatives to help them during breeding season and create:
personal - local - national and global
awareness of plastic consumption!
We want YOU! 💚🌱
Thank you for supporting a little regional project with an GLOBAL IMPACT! 🤜🏽🤛🏽
