Worum es geht

Dear friends, colleagues and family,

this summer I’m thrilled to have the privilege to partake in a 39 km & 1900 meter elevation mountain marathon up the Zugspitze in the Bavarian Alps (June 18th), followed directly by a three day team cycling race circumventing Iceland June (21-24th), where I’ve set a +150 km per day cycling target. I’ve been training for months for this challenge, yet my ultimate goal …

is to bring attention to the incredible work of the experienced social founders Janice and Werner Lehnis at the non-profit
Care in Action, who in the Ukraine are empowering vulnerable children and orphans through initiative, education and responsible action to live an independent life. I find the work of Care in Action not only politically extremely relevant, but through their “help for self-help”-model and the development of volunteerism culture in society, view it as a sustainable approach to development work.

With your help, I’d like to assist Care In Action achieve their goal of funding essential resources (e.g. meals, materials, transport, etc.) for the staff and above all, the volunteers, who are a cornerstone in carrying out the STEP (“life skill coaching”) and TOGETHER (child development) programming.

Mission accomplished & a big thank you

H. Weiland hat diese Neuigkeit am 13. Juli 2017 veröffentlicht.

Dear family, friends and colleagues,

after what seems like quite a long journey, last Saturday evening I made it across the finish line in Verbier (see pictures). Following a 10hr 29min race over 62 km (4000 meters elevation — oh my that was some work!) in the Swiss alps, I was able to accomplish my (revised) goal of tackling two back-to-back ‘ultra’ races to raise awareness and funds for the volunteer work at Care in Action in the Ukraine.

Currently the fundraiser stands at €1’260, which next to the races is the real accomplishment. Thank you to all of you who have donated and pushed me on along the way. Rest assured, the funds raised will be welcomed by Care in Action and put to good use with the volunteers.

In the next weeks I will meet with Werner and Janice from Care in Action to talk about the funds and perhaps brainstorm ideas for a longer term project. I will see if I can post updates here at that point from the on-going projects in the Ukraine that you have funded. In the mean time you can of course also follow Care in Action on Facebook

Again, thank you for your support and
all the best

Hannes
