Marathon effort - Berlin

Last year my friend Gert and I signed up to run the 40th Berlin Marathon, which takes place on 29 September. Sadly, a few weeks ago, Gert passed away suddenly while training for the race. I've decided to carry on with the run and, as a tribute to him and a thank-you for his inspiration and encouragement, I've decided to try to raise money for a charity that was very close to his heart and one for which he raised money last year.

KiezKids is a project in Berlin, which helps to provide opportunities for children of parents who have drug or alcohol problems. It aims to help families in the long term while also providing projects with which the children can get involved in the short tem and a safe space where they can just be kids. Both Gert and I had the privilege of growing up with loving families who gave us all the opportunities they could. Unfortunately not everyone has this. So please give a little if you can - to support me, to pay tribute to my wonderful friend and, most importantly, to give these children a future to which they can look forward.
