The School for Life was founded by Prof. Dr. Juergen Zimmer and Khun Thaneen “Joy” Worrawittayakun in 2003. It provides a home and education for children in difficult circumstances. 140 such children have found a new home here by May 2006 and many more would like to come from around Thailand.
Our goal is to support:

• AIDS orphans without relatives or with relatives below the poverty line;
• Tsunami orphans and survivors;
• Orphans whose parents died, e.g. as victims in the “drug-war”;
• Children without access to their parents, e.g. parents sentenced to life imprisonment;
• Children who were forced into child-labour;
• Children from mountain tribes without access to formal education.

The School for Life creates jobs for local people, providing employment in farming, civil works or child care activities. Following the community development approach, adults are included in project work which target local key issues such as recycling or organic farming.

In order to secure the wellbeing of the children we depend on the support of companies and individuals. At the moment the monthly expenses are not covered and there is no reliable financial footing. We seek partners that not only help us cover the current monthly expenses but also join us in securing the open costs over a longer period of time. Only if we can achieve a stable support from sponsors can we open our doors for more children. Currently there are many more children that would like to join our school, not only to receive an education but to find a home as well.

  Als temporäres Teammitglied vor Ort kann ich gut einschätzen und beobachten, dass den Kindern aus armen Verhältnissen hier ein liebevolles Zuhause und eine Schulbildung auf besondere Art und Weise gegeben wird, nämlich nah am Leben und seinen Herausforderungen. So gestaltet sich der Unterricht in praktischen Projekteinheiten und realen Lernfeldern, was den Kindern die Möglichkeit gibt, selbst aktiv und kreativ zu werden und selbständig nach Lösungen für Probleme und Ideen zu suchen. Das fördert ihre natürliche Neugier und ihre Einsatzbereitschaft. Die Kinder wirken sehr reif und selbstbewußt und sind unwahrscheinlich interessiert und lernmotiviert. Auch ihre Fröhlichkeit ist eine herrliche Ermutigung, sich selbst manchmal daran zu erinnern, wie gut es einem selbst doch eigentlich geht.

  Hey! Leider verfüge ich nicht über die notwendigen Mittel euch finanziell unter die Arme zu greifen.. aber ich würde in meinen Sommersemsterferien sehr gerne in Thailand arbeiten und mich an Projekten beteiligen oder auch selbst Projekte entwickeln und durchführen. Zu meiner Person: Nachdem ich mein Diplom als Sozialpädagogin absolviert und bereits 4 Jahre Berufserfahrung gesammelt habe, absolviere ich nun mein Zweitstudium in Berlin (Regionalwissenschaften Asien/ Afrika mit Schwerpunkt Südostasien). Ich würde mich total freuen und wäre euch mehr als dankbar wenn ihr mir diesbezüglich weiterhelfen könnt. Lieben Gruß von Rabea

    Liebe B. Dutschmann, ich bitte um Entschuldigung, wenn Ihnen niemand geantwortet hat. Leider wurde die Plattform betterplace von der Zuständigen nicht ausreichend betreut. Ich habe die Verantwortung jetzt übernommen. Patin können Sie werden, wenn Sie monatlich einen bestimmten Betrag für ein Kind überweisen. Sie bekommen Berichte über die Fortschritte, die Ihr Patenkind macht und Sie sind auch herzlich eingeladen, das Projekt und Ihr Patenkind zu besuchen.
