Fountain Youth Group is a registered community based organization in Kenya and operates in Githurai, run and managed by local youths with a mission to Nurture, Empower and Transform vulnerable young people in Githurai to be self reliant and independent.
Githurai is an informal settlement on the outskirt of Nairobi, it has approximately over 450 000 people with more than 65% being young people. The community has limited public institutions which are in bad conditions hence illiteracy and unemployment rates are above 45% thus high rate of poverty which has resulted to young people to engage in commercial sex, drug abuse and criminal activities.
To realize the above mission, we have 3 programs namely Nurturing Program, Social Enterprise Incubator Program and Mtaa Yangu "My community" program.
Nurturing program involves working with local vulnerable children to access and excel in academics and this is through 2 projects namely Inuka Sanitary project where vulnerable local primary school girls are trained on HIV & AIDS, Personal Hygiene, Puberty and Sex education then given sanitary pads on monthly basis to reduce school absenteeism during menstruation and poor performance among girls. The other project is Inuka English Club where we support vulnerable children with stationary, tuition fee and cultivate reading culture more so English. We intend also to establish a community reading center thus continuously cultivating reading culture among the young people. This program has managed to register limited positive results because of the support from volunteers like you thus we kindly request you to consider supporting this program to enable local vulnerable children access formal education and excel in their life.
Social Enterprise Incubator program involves training & coaching local vulnerable young people with business, vocational and life skills then supporting successful trainees to start small, sustainable business. We are running business and life skills training and also started basic vocational training like jewelry & house hold mat making. The demand is high thus we kindly request volunteers and organizations to support in acquiring vocational equipments like sewing machines, knitting machines, computers and seed capital for business start up. Through your support local vulnerable young people will be self reliant and independent.
Mtaa Yangu " My Community " program involves creating platforms where local youths will be educated, sensitized and informed on various issues thus actively involved in decision making & development of Githurai. There are 3 annually events in April, August and December.
We kindly request volunteers to support us by donating to the above projects to enable local youths to be Nurtured, Empowered and Transformed hence becoming self reliant and independent thus reduced deaths and Githurai will be a better place to reside.
