We Terra Utopians have made it our mission to do everything possible, for the protection of important habitats and sustainability. For us, this means above all, to bring the areas of environment, economy and social affairs into a sustainable relationship. We believe that each of these three areas cannot exist in the long term without the others, and it is there that we see the biggest need for action in protecting the environment.
That's why, primarily we want to secure & increase biodiversity, to meet all people on an equal footing, and to be as transparent as possible in everything we do.
It's nice that you can sit back and relax, knowing that if you can't do it yourself, others will do it for you - and do it properly, with a sense of responsibility and without half-heartedness.
Here's our 3 steps on how we understand and will implement this:
#1 Education/ Awareness
Situation: Many people are still not; or only partially; aware of how they are destroying the environment and ultimately our livelihood. Implementing changes in their own everyday life is often, even more unlikely in rural regions, affected by the so-called 'brain drain', but also, especially in the urban lifestyle, this can be observed, with dramatic consequences.
Conclusion: Terra Utopia will start the first step with a concept for more awareness, which includes workshops, information material, consultations, educational trips, public relations, cooperations, etc.; both for residents and tourists; to increase awareness for themselves and the environment.
#2 Rainforest Purchase & Reforestation
Situation: all over the world rainforests are being cut down at an alarming rate, habitats destroyed and sacrificed for monocultures and pastures.
Conclusion: Step 2 for terra utopia is the purchase and protection of rainforests in Ecuador, as well as deforested areas for reforestation, and our local partners ensure that the forest is actually be protected.
The first land purchase is scheduled for, as soon as we have raised enough money to buy it.
#3 Ecotourism
Situation: Tourism and pseudo ecotourism pollutes the environment to a high degree, because the focus is on making as much profit as possible and not on preserving the ecosystem. Conclusion: Terra Utopia acts according to the principle 'form follows function', and the 'function' for us is the intact ecosystem which is 'followed' by the 'form' of tourism, e.g. by minimally invasive tree houses at the edge of the protected area. So, as a non-profit organization, the income will allow the project to gain stability, grow and enable further projects.
Once we have established a certain basic structure, we would like to make it accessible to tourists.
