Brian and Edith Pound Ssali, a pastor couple from Gayaza in Uganda, are lovingly taking care of 21 children at the moment. The amazing thing is, they really give up everything to give the children a better life.
All the children get nutritious meals , an opportunity for schooling and access to medical and dental care and are also provided with clothes.
At the beginning of October 2020, we unfortunately received the sad news that the children's home was terminated due to the landlord's own needs. To prevent the children from ending up on the street again, we quickly rented a small house as emergency accommodation. Thanks to donations, we were able to get new beds, mattresses and bed linen for the children, so that each child at least has his or her own little realm again. It has become difficult to cope with all the additional costs, because the Corona pandemic has not stopped in Uganda and has driven up many food prices. The cost of a school scholarship for our beloved children in the home alone is €13,000 per year. With the help of sponsorships, part of the costs can be covered.
In order to help the home sustain itself in the long term, we have set ourselves the goal of supporting Pastor Brian and providing the children with a loving, larger home in the long term. We are currently looking for a large piece of land with a bigger house on it, which can be used for a home and is expandable. This would eliminate the high rental costs and give us the opportunity to gradually expand the home for income-generating activities for self-sufficiency.
Planting fruit trees and growing vegetables in a mixed culture not only provides a varied diet for the children, but also contributes to an income, along with small-scale livestock farming with chickens, goats and pigs, and makes the home more independent in times of crisis.
We have currently drawn up a 4-year plan for the project and are collecting donations amounting to € 80,000.
As the home in Uganda receives no financial support from the government, we rely 100% on donations and support from volunteers and Good Samaritans.
