The ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY in Uganda is an 80 square kilometer sanctuary for rhinos. It was founded in 2000 to reintroduce the white and black rhinos, which were on the verge of extinction. Rhinos are bred on the Ziwa Reserve to be released into the wild in Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park.
The animals live in their natural habitat and are watched by rangers to protect them from poaching.
Some rhinoceros calves have already been born there, which is very pleasing as female rhinos only give birth to a young every 5 years.
A large number of rhinos are on the red list worldwide because humans have brought them to the verge of extinction. We at the Our Earth Foundation fight for the preservation of these animals, just as we are already doing for the orangutans in Asia and the Sumatran tigers.
The foundation's founder Ina Claus has already visited this reserve in order to work there as a volunteer and to gain an insight into the area.
The volunteer report can be found on our website:
