Since the middle of March we, a mixed team from Würzburg and surroundings, has been working on the Shield Community project.
In order to provide medical staff, supermarkets and risk groups with the so-called Face Shields, we acted fast, got together, financed 3D printers and filament (printing material for the 3D printers) out of our own pocket and started to produce the Shields.
In the meantime, about 100 volunteers are involved in our project. Our daily tasks are taking care of the 3D printers, assembling the shields, coordinating the transport and answering mails and incoming requests.
As of today, we have distributed several thousand shields to many small medical practices, large hospitals, several nursing homes and private individuals. Our next large delivery, with around 5,000 shields, will be to Ethiopia, where we want to prevent the spread of the virus. A delivery to Lesbos is also being planned.
What are the plans for the future:
The Shield Community Project was and is a social project. The Shields produced and pre-financed by us are distributed on a donation basis. Everyone gives what he can and wants. Unfortunately, the incoming donations often do not even cover the material costs of the delivered shields. In order to be able to continue producing we need money to buy material, to finance the transport and to cover past expenses.
We have been working at full speed for weeks to make a life in crisis safer!
Every € helps us to continue to do so!
Thanks a lot,
the Shield Community
