    About this project

Katrin Dietrich from Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH is responsible for this project
It is with great regret and due to the spreading of the coronavirus that we, Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH, announce the cancellation of the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) scheduled for May 5 to 10, 2020. To protect the health of our staff and audiences from the region and the whole world as well as anyone involved in our events has, of course, the highest priority for us!

However, this cancellation is associated with a great financial loss that we cannot easily compensate for the following years without support. As a cultural organizer, we and our service providers in the event industry, artists, filmmakers and creative people are particularly hard hit. In order to be able to offer our audience the best of the world of animated films, we had prepared this year's festival for over a year and invested finances.

But despite the cancellation, we would like to enable our fans and everyone who wants to become part of this special cultural event to be able to see unique films, to take part in discussions or workshops. As this is currently not physically possible, we want to create a new format out of this need: the Onlinefestival.ITFS.de. An online format that will leave everyone at home with a digital festival feeling during the ongoing Corona crisis. We also want to offer our filmmakers a platform right now to give their creative and artistic achievements visibility and audience.. The financial need includes maintaining the workforce and motivation of our dedicated employees, but also the costs for programming the platform, building a digital infrastructure, developing new online formats and targeting this new offer.

A free and a paid area are planned. Statements by filmmakers and interviews that provide information about the current situation and the festival are to be presented on the freely accessible page. Parts of the festival program, such as the curated program Animated Music Video, should be available as playlists. We present outstanding animated short films every day during the online festival. And even events and panels should take place online - as a livestream and video conference. In cooperation with our partner MyAnimation.TV, there will be a children's program as well as digital workshop offers on how children can produce their own animated films at home. GameZone presents selected games, digital educational games and the nominees for the Animated Games Awards 2020.

The paid area is intended to give full access to the film program: A selection of short films from the international competition, Young Animation, Tricks for Kids, Trickstar Nature and selected feature films from the AniMovie competition are available here. The complete competition program of 2020 will also be shown at ITFS 2021 (May 4-9) in top quality on the big screens of downtown cinemas and will be awarded by the international juries.
