On January 25, 2012, HIJRA began its second phase of fishing kit distribution to over 1000 vulnerable local fishermen in Mogadishu.

The program started in June 2011, works to support locally trained fishermen through the provision of Hooks, Lines, Nets and Traps in the Banadir region of Mogadishu. The project designed with local fishing cooperatives and traders works to ensure the success of the shore based fishing in the seaside villages of Abdiaziz and Shingani.

In 2011 over 2,000 fishermen benefited from the first phase of the programs distribution with another 1,000 set to receive assistance in late January.
