    About this project

    T. Dircksen from Nueva Sonrisa e. V. is responsible for this project
This is the motto of the non- profit association Nueva Sonrisa e . V. which was founded in 2010. They try to organize and coordinate aid for the island of Muisne so that a smile can be conjured up in the faces of the people there.

The first thought of establishing Nueva Sonrisa e .V. was founded in 2006, from Thomas Dirksen and Viviane Bethencourt Casas, who both worked as a volunteer on the Ecuadorian island Muisne and who became two founding members of the association. Both were looking for a platform to provide effective help for people living in Muisne even after the end of their stay.

In subsequent visits to the island, the success of previous projects was assessed and new ones were initiated also through the help of another founding member Eva Becke, who became involved during her stay in 2009/2010. However, those involved recognized that with the increasing size of the projects it would be necessary to set up a non-profit association. Therefore with the help of friends and acquaintances, Nueva Sonrisa e.V. was founded on May 29th in 2010. The association is registered and based in Wettringen and is recognized as a charitable organization.

    Main Goals:

Through Nueva Sonrisa e. V. people from Muisne, especially the women and children shall be supported. The association is based on the idea of capacity building or in other words "support people to help themselves". We therefore support the removal of hygiene and care deficits, as well as the formation of a functioning community life. Of particular importance is the education of the children that we support through the promotion of learning and teaching materials. Also the afternoon care after school is very important for example through supervising and helping with homework or doing physical activities.

    What we do in practice:

    - Actions at the International Women's Day and the World Children's Day will contribute to strengthening the rights of these two vulnerable groups.
    - At Christmas we want to give people a joy. Therefore the children of Muisne get for Christmas in the school a small gift package with diverse hygiene articles (such as toothbrushes and toothpaste), play material and of course some little sweets.
    - In April begins the school and therefore we distribute "starter packages" with materials such as exercise books, pencils and blocks that are required at school.
    - Nueva Sonrisa e.V. cooperates with the Helen Keller School. It is the only school in Muisne with an inclusive education class, where children who have special needs can be taught. Here in particular we want to enhance the daily and educational care of the disabled children with food, tools and study material.
