    About this project

    L. Tamang from Midwifery Society of Nepal is responsible for this project
Like many resource-poor countries, Nepal has one of the highest rates of maternal and neonatal deaths in the world. Most of these deaths occur in rural areas and the uptake of maternal health services is very poor. Government of Nepal is striving to achieve millennium development goals 4, reducing child deaths and 5, improving maternal health. Currently 25 members are volunteering their time actively in this initiative and its activities across the country. These include daily operating of the administration work of the organisation, organising continuing midwifery education, awareness raising activities, conducting free women's health camps, lobby and advocacy at the regional and national level, and networking among professional nationally and internationally to bring the separate cadre of midwives as per the mandate of the National Policy of Skilled Birth Attendants, 2006.

The beneficiaries of this projects are rural nurses who are working directly to provide maternal and child health services, nursing teachers involving in teaching midwifery subjects and childbearing women's and their newborns.

Since it is a nationwide approach to strengthen midwifery services all the nurses, around 500 who are involving in providing maternity services will be benefitted. Likewise, indirectly all mothers and newborns will be benefitted who seek maternity care.
Whether individual people, professionals or organisations in kind support or financial contributions that will mean to lot in saving the lives of rural poor women and their newborns, who are dying needlessly.
