COPESSA-Prevention for child abuse and neglect

We try to create a safe, caring and secure community for children through community development programmes, counselling and medical assessment of abuse survivors and capacity building. Donate to give children an opportunity to overcome trauma.

Hello to everyone out there!
My name is Nikita and I'm 21 years old. I was born and raised in Dom. Rep. but have been living in Germany for 7 years! At the moment I'm staying in Johannesburg, South Africa, working as a volunteer in a social project. I am working with an NGO called "COPESSA", which is a community based organisation based in Soweto (South Africa) whose purpose is to prevent child abuse and neglect. Soweto is a Township where many children come from a violent household and have been through different traumatizing events. A brutal rape of a baby in 2000 was the cause for a come together to bewail the loss of community sense and care of children. COPESSA offers Community Development Projects (primary prevention), Clinical Services such as counseling, medical assessments, group therapy, play therapy for the victims and their families (tertiary prevention), research and training (quaternary prevention). All the services are completely free to the community. COPESSA tries to work together with the community as they believe change can only happen if we all work together. (Link below)

My work at COPESSA is very diverse: from working in the office managing their Social Media, planning events, coming up with fundraising ideas to working in the garden (which is one of their income generating projects) and planning and assisting the Aftercare for the children.

My work is completely voluntary, all donations will go towards my sending organization Sage Net, which has made it possible for me to come here and help! Sage Net pays for my expenses in Joburg like food, rent, transportation to work, flights and so on. If you want to know more about Sage Net, you can find the link below.

I would be sincerely grateful if you supported me with a donation. Any amount is a big help!

Thank you,
Nikita
