Language connects countries and through teaching a foreign language I want to stand up for more tolerance. I’m going to support the German School in Las Palmas through offering the pre-school children the opportunity to learn German.

Hi, my name is Paula Beck, I’m from Germany and I’m 18 years old. I will graduate school and get my A level in summer 2018. I think it is an investment in our future when young people sensitize for foreign cultures. Because of that I’m going to take part in a voluntary service after my graduation to promote sympathy and esteem between cultures.

At the end of August 2018 I will travel for ten month to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) for an international youth voluntary service (IJFD). My site of operation, the Colegio Oficial Alemán (German School), is a community center. About 700 students are teached in Spanish and German there to encourage cultural exchange and to promote the cooperation of different mentalities through the contact of language.

My main task supporting the educators of the pre-school contains to convey the German language to the kids playfully. Language skills are important for them because speaking a foreign language will improve their future job opportunities mainly. This aspect is especially important by taking a look at the youth unemployment rate of 38.7% in Spain. Over one third of Spanish adolescents have to face their future without any prospect. Since a lot of German companies have Establishments in Spain, speaking German, what is moreover an important language for science and tourisms as well, can provide a variety of opportunities.

Since years I’m active in the local youth work, for instant I guided a youth club and every year I’m working in a children’s summer camp. I always enjoyed working with kids and came early to the conclusion that I want to extend my social engagement. Compared with my favourite school subject, Spanish, the project is my ideal chance to stand up for international understanding and to help children to stay away of unemployment.

My project is partly sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, but the rest my partner organisation has to pay. But my partner organisation “Volunta” is a non-profit organisation.  Thus they depend on the support of donators to enable cultural exchange and voluntary services like mine. Therefore I want to build a sponsors’ association to realize my mission and want to plead you for a donation.

The sum does not count, every donation will help a lot. I want to thank you delightfully for your interest and would be pleased with every donation!
