Hello everyone,
My name is Lilli Baumhauer, I am 18 years old and come from Cologne. Having recently completed my Higher School Certificate (“Abitur”), I will begin 13 months of social service in Uganda at the end of July this year. During this period, I will live in the small, north-eastern city of Ococia and assist the sisters of the community „Little Sisters of St. Francis“ in their work, in both a health centre and a school. Part of my role will be to help out on various hospital wards, including an HIV clinic, and to spend time with the patients, for example through music-related projects. I will also assist the nuns in their educational work of raising awareness for conditions such as epilepsy and Aids. A further area of responsibility will be working in a girls’ school with about 350 students. My role there will range from providing assistance with homework, to teaching English and running co-curricular activities. My voluntary social service is part of a program offered by the German organisation SoFiA e.V..
Solidarity group
I would be very pleased if you were also interested in sharing in my voluntary social service by joining my solidarity group. You can do this either by following my trip via a regular newsletter or by providing financial support for the peace project. Your donation will not only support my voluntary service but the work of the organisation behind the program, SoFiA e.V. It will therefore assist in safeguarding voluntary social peace projects overseas for the future. The voluntary social service is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through its global development program and also partially subsidised by the diocese of the German city of Trier.
