My name is Jacob Drouin. I am 18 years old and I live in Sinsheim, Germany. I am currently graduating from High School and will start a voluntary service in Cape Town, South Africa from September 2017 onwards. There I will work in a facility that provides day care for mentally disabled people. The voluntary service is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. In addition, as a volunteer I am invited to raise funds for the institution in Cape Town.
Why did I choose a voluntary service?
I am particularly interested in working with children, adolescents or adults. I have always been socially engaged and have been doing several internships in social medical organizations such as an elderly home, or an elementary school where I worked with children with either physical or mental disabilities. On a regular basis I work as an assistant for a charity association for people with mental disabilities in my hometown. The experiences from all of these activities confirm my decision to spend one year abroad and fully commit myself to this social project.
I believe that I can make a good contribution to this project in South Africa. As I was brought up in a French – German family I am used to speaking different languages and to live traditions and customs of two different countries. For this reason I am open and very interested in cultures and languages.
Now I ask you to support this project by making a donation. This way you can also make a difference, no matter what amount you can donate. Thank you for reading this far and your contribution.
