About this project
Phujel is a low cast area and event though the cast system has been abolished officially, there is still a lot of discrimination. Basically the cast system is still functioning in most villages.
Phujel is a very poor area; the people are mostly farmers and have little access to education.
Two years ago the school in Phujel only ran up till the fifth grade, leaving the children with no abilities to rise from poverty. In Nepal you need to have finished the eighth grade to continue in the education system. If you don’t then your future most likely will be as a beggar or at least the absolute bottom of society.
Now, in 2010 PSP have been running for two years and now involves more than 300 children. We have upgraded the school to the seventh grade, employed two English speaking, low caste teachers, constructed a road and built a two-room building for housing the two new classes, meeting both the demands for cast equality and education.
Today’s challenge is to create a platform to insure the teachers’ salaries for more than a quarter at the time. Furthermore we wish to upgrade to the eighth grade in April and for that we need both a new teacher and a new building. The school doesn’t have a toilet yet, however the locals have volunteered to help construct the buildings. So we need salary for the teachers, construction materials, furniture and water supplies for the school.
We are happy to receive any kind of support. All donations will be used solely for the children’s and school’s needs. For more information check out the website: www.pspnepal.dk it will be available in English in the New Year.
