Deseret Community School is a community based organisation that was founded in 2009 with the aim of putting an end to raising number of school drop outs in Uganda. We realised that it was not much that was needed for a child that is in need requires to be at school and we always asked ourselves, why would someone fail to go to school because of a pen, a pencil, a book, shoes, oh! no this was so much unfair, so as a school we decided to design a program that is in support of the orphaned, needy and street children.
We realised that the biggest issue that pushes most of these children to dropping out of school was school fees which seems small by bearly available at their homes due to the rampant poverty that sweeps over most of the families.
The number of children that are currenttly being supported by Deseret School has outstripped our expectations, this has forced us to be accomodated in semi-permanent classrooms, these stand a threat to these children given the fact that water drains in the classrooms during the rainy seasons and these act centres of infection to these children.
Our latest donation was a big deal it blessed us with a permanent classroom and we really appreciate that support, our bone to run this institution has been donations though these are sporadic and they from a handful of caregivers.
Our school is located in kyamagwa village, mafubira subcounty, it is 5.4 km from Jinja town and takes a 2.5 hours drive from Kampala....
Our mission is to impart knowledge, attitude, practice and life skills of the present and the future through girl child education empowerment programs, guidance and counselling among others.
