    About this project

    J. Byarugaba from Youth Alive Uganda is responsible for this project
In Uganda, 60% of women reported having been bartered by their spouses in 2009,cases of domestic violence continue to be on the increase in some instances resulting to death.(New Vision Online : Man kills wife over love sms Monday, 15th December, 2008 yet the majority of women in rural areas don’t know that domestic violence is a crime punishable by law.
    Objectives
    1. Increase local leaders participation and involvement in stopping violence against women
    2. Increase awareness on the causes and effects of domestic violence as well as knowledge on women rights, consequences of violation, where to report and go for help.
    3. Reduce cases of domestic violence in families as well as violence among dating boys and girls
    4. Enhance community partnerships and collaborations for collective efforts in stopping violence against women
    5. Improve referral system for victims of violence against women

    Tactics / Specific activities.

    1. Stake holders & partnership meetings: These will be One day meetings where we will engage various stakeholders from various villages and these will include; opinion leaders, Village leaders, Religious leaders, Members from the civil society, cultural leaders.

    2. Training of trainers (TOT): This will entails training participants in peer education skills / group facilitation methods on how to facilitate behavior change among boys and girls.

    3. Music Dance and Drama Outreaches and festival: Evidence abounds that people easily remember a message they have seen and heard in a drama or song. Scenes in a drama or song keep echoing in their minds, which makes them emulate the scenes that they viewed as being helpful in their circumstances.

    4. Sports outreaches and galas: This is one of the ways we intend to engage boys and girls in the fight against violence on women and girls. Sports attracts more young people, it’s a good avenue for talent development and we intend to tap into this to bring boys and girls together to an action to stop Violence and also use sports to raise more awareness on the causes and effects of domestic violence.
    5. Married couple workshops: Husbands and wives have a role to play to end domestic violence.

    6. Home visits: Our volunteers will also carry out home to home visits, on request by married couples and or where our community based facilitators deem it neccessary to visit a home for one on one talk and support.
