The mpito school network is a social networking organization for schools. Our
network currently includes seven schools in a slum of Nairobi. More about us at
'promoters' or: www.mpito.net
Below, we introduce you to one of our mpito projects. This allows our schools
access to technology.
An important partner of the project is the international non-profit organization
Labdoo (www.labdoo.org).
Labdoo collects no longer used IT equipment such as laptops, tablet PCs, eBook
Readers et al. Anyone can donate equipment to Labdoo. Labdoo prepares the
laptops, erasing all data, installing the Linux operating system Ubuntu (in our
case in English and Swahili!) as well as comprehensive e-learning software. After
that Labdoo passes the equipment free of charge to schools.
Together with their principals, all of our mpito schools have been registered at
Labdoo. Information on the needed laptops and other devices have been made
independently by the school principals.

You can thereby e.g. track which school has received how many laptops or even
to which school there are currently how many laptops in transport. You also find
information on the individual schools, each laptop and photo albums, showing the
usage of laptops. So we can guarantee a very high transparency.
The laptops are used in schools for both a computer instruction, as well as for
teaching IT skills. Moreover, they are also of immense importance for the schools
administrative work (for example: preparation of tests, certificates, schedules,
internet access, etc.).
Compared to classic computers laptops offer the advantage of being portable.
They require no extra computer room within the limited capacities of a school and
can be used flexibly. In addition, they can be stored safely in theft-proof
cupboards. Because of the rechargeable batteries, they allow a short-term
working despite frequent power outages.
With your support, it is possible for us to transport the Labdoo-laptops to our
mpito schools in Nairobi.
