“Kopi Toraja” is one of the famous products of Tanah Toraja District for its unique bitter-sweet taste. Surprisingly, despite of the high demand of coffee beans in the market, farmers do not take coffee farming seriously because of lack of better marketing opportunities and farming skills to improve their harvest. This is where the project intends to develop by using simple and practical technology that can be shared to the farmers to improve their crops. This was started with a small group of farmers of Panga, Rantepao where 100 seedlings of Arabica were planted with drip irrigation method and organic compost and pesticide making were also demonstrated. The project is also in the process of exploring the possibility to form a cooperative of coffee farmers and marketing opportunities. With these strategies, we hope to achieve our goals in rural-based community development project. First is to help the poor farmers achieve their full potential thus improving their quality of life and will in effect be passed to other farmers and surrounding villages; and second is to develop the partnership for a sustainable funding support for other community projects within the country.
