    About this project

    J. Hargreaves from McGregor Waldorf School is responsible for this project
The McGregor Waldorf School was founded in 1994, the seminal year in which our first democratic election was held. Children of all language, cultural, socio-economic, and racial backgrounds were for the first time permitted to attend a school together thereby helping to heal the wounds of apartheid and to help build and shape a better society for all.

This is not a short term solution and now twenty one years later we continue to cater for children from very poor communities. Families choose our school because we offer an English Medium education with a strong emphasis on Visual Art, Dramatic Art and Crafts. Our classes are small which enables our teachers to establish a special nurturing bond with the children.

The curriculum intends to educate the children holistically and to guide them on their path to adulthood, able to take responsibility for themselves, their families and their communities. Our aim is to help develop our children into citizens who have empathy for the plight of others and who are able to transform their ideas and ideals into practical action. These vital qualities are sorely needed in a country struggling to improve the lives of all South Africans. Half of our population still lives on or under the breadline of fifty four Euro a month and ± 15 million people rely on Government handouts to survive. There are 3.5 million children orphaned through the ravages of HIV/AIDS who rely on their grandparents or older siblings to raise them.

Our children’s families contribute ±10% of the school’s budget through the payment of school fees (often in arrears) and the difference needs to be covered by donations and sponsorships.

Donations are sought for our Bursary Fund and Bus Fund so that we are able to keep providing quality education without having to raise our fees which the majority of our parents would be unable to afford.
