    About this project

    O. Balog from Not Just A Number is responsible for this project
Not Just A Number has grown out of the "Refugee Project Maastricht" an initiative directly linked to the University of Maastricht. NJAN stands for the "re"humanization of refugees in the European context, by linking civil society and other stakeholders to those seeking aslyum to build a whole, new and sustainable life.

NJAN is the bridge between displaced persons and the civil society. The close proximity and personalized relationship we were fortunate to build with the 700+ refugees helped us to gain valuable insights about their situation and struggle to to fit in.

Our aim is therefore to combat social exclusion by means that resonate with the values of both the refugees and the local community within they resite. Cultural activities, volunteer assistance, yoga, art therapy and professional workshops are a few examples of the programs we created to bring both sides on board. However, empowerment is at the heart of our projects. We recognise that a bundle of belongings isn't the only thing a refugee brings to his new country, thus providing stakeholders with the necessary tools in their quest to develop is one of our main objectives.

Together, formal students at the University of Maastricht and refugees, we build our programs and events, such as the upcoming "Culture Lovers Festival" that will take place in the city center of Maastricht (the city park) inviting both locals and refugees (we have a perimission for 200 people but expecting much more since it is an open event for anyone who is interested), whereby we will provide lectures, folklore music and food for the visitors, while fun games and toys for the children.

The funds thus will be used to pay for:
    - the dishes, that will have to be prepared and catered by those who have a permission to sell and distribute food,
    - for the ticket of transportation (Amsterdam-Maastricht) of our guest speakers who will talk about the errapted refugee crises,
-the rental of toys and materials the children will be entertained with.

Thank you in advance for your help,

    The NJAN Team
