In 2010 the SOG scholarship program was brought to life in Berlin. Since then 117 motivated Congolese had the opportunity to study at an agriculture institute in Mweso. Up until 2013, 53 of the selected students have finished their studies, many of which with honours. The deciding criteria for applicants, besides their eligibility and necessity to go to university, is their personal motivation and above all a proposition of a social project of their own, through which they actively try to build up their own region. The projects are arranged during their studies with the cooperation of our partner organisation CADEP and set into action after successful graduation. The project design aims to empower rape victims through seminars ranging from vegetable cultivation, the breeding of higher protein chickens to the cultivation of eucalyptus crops against erosion and deforestation. Some propositions like the foundation of agricultural cooperatives are being carried out while the students are still studying. The goal is to develop a long-term land development that provides effective use of agriculture potential. Education is the key to sustainable development.
