About this project
Many women and girls getting maltreated and sexual abused every year in India. There are 91 cases of sexual abuse every day which equals to a sex crime every 15 minutes.
From August 2015 I will support the organization Maher (Pune/India) in public relations as a weltwärts volunteer. To do so, I need 2.940€ (3.342,65 US-Dollar).
The mission of the interfaith organization Maher is to care for and shelter destitute women and children while enhancing their capabilities. Maher was founded 18 years ago by Sister Lucy Kurien.
1991, while Sr. Lucy was working for the H.O.P.E organisation, a pregnant woman came to her, asking for help. She believed her husband was going to kill her to bring another woman into his house. Sr. Lucy couldn't help her, but promised to try and do something for her the following day.
I was brought up in a secure family environment and I was unaware that one night could make such a difference to the life of a woman"; "That very night, her husband, in a drunken rage, set her on tembefire. I actually saw the blazing woman and heard her shrieks of agony. We put the fire out and took her to a hospital but she died of 90 degree burns and with her died the seven-month-old fetus. I was devastated.

Help me to support this great project. My voluntary service is driven by weltwärts, a project created by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and also by the German Red Cross. weltwärts is financially supported by the Ministry but not covered in total.
To pay for accommodation, meals, medication, insurance and travel I need 245€ (278,55 US-Dollar) per month. This equals to 2.940€ (3.342,65 US-Dollar) for one year of support.
