    About this project

    P. Banda from Mthuzi Development Foundation is responsible for this project
Project Background:Approximately Most of these people are going through reproductive years with limited access to sexual and reproductive health information including HIV and other STIs. Trends evident in studies across the country on their sexual and reproductive health status show that they are typically uninformed and unskilled about how to protect themselves from sexual abuse, unwanted pregnancies and STIs including HIV/AIDS. In part due to service provider’s concentration on peri-urban areas and poor youth’s attendance in community HIV campaigns.

The rate of spread of STIs arising from risky activities such as multiple sexual partners, unprotected sexual intercourse, substance abuse and alcoholism that impair judgment among youths in Chipata is high. This is worse in the 5 projected sites which is characterized by long distance drivers. Chipata district has a prevalence rate of 23.3% which is the highest in the province while the provincial prevalence rate is 20.3%. Source: ZSBS Report 2005.
