Help us to catch the water out of fog and solve water supply problems in a sustainable way. Convince yourself of our solution in one short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auYvEAM547k
-- What is it about?
Over one billion people on our planet do not have secured access to clean water. One of the highly affected areas by water shortage is the coastal region Sidi Ifni in southern Morocco. The majority of the population over there cannot acquire more than five litres of water per day. However, there is enough water to adequately supply all inhabitants of the region: This water is not obtained through usual sources, such as wells or rivers, but from fog, which is abundantly available due to the coasts proximity to the sea in southern Morocco. The mobile fogcatcher filters out fine, condensed water drops from the fog and henceforth generates water, which has been verified by the WHO as very pure. This allows the residents to collect up to twelve liters of clean water per day. Such a technique does not consume energy and is economical to sustain and maintain as a result of its simple construction.
-- What do we want to achieve?
With the help of the mobile fogcatcher, we aim to facilitate the acquisition of a higher quality of life for the people of Sidi Ifni. Our motto “Empowering People” stands in the foreground. We do not limit our commitment solely to providing the mobile fogcatcher, but ensure that our project will create long-term and sustainable improvements as well. We strive to enable the local people to produce the fogcatcher independently, and will support them in building a successful business. Thereby we will not only achieve a steady improvement in the water supply, but also create new jobs. By the summer of 2016 we will build, together with the residents, an autarchic economic and social network, in which they can solve their water supply problem through the production, distribution and use of the mobile fogcatcher independently.
-- What are our next steps?
We found local workshops that want to produce the fogcatchers and can equip and provide ten Moroccan households with mobile fogcatchers starting August 2015. In a two-month test phase, we will thereby locate the best sites for optimal fog yield. Parallel to the aforementioned, we are working with our local production partner on a business model for the production and sales of the product.
-- Who are we?
We are a team of Moroccan and German students striving to revolutionize the water supply in Morocco together. As part of the organization Enactus, it is our overall goal to sustainably improve the living standards of the people with voluntary commitment. We want to create long-term changes. Therefore, it is our principle, not just to provide aid, but to enable people to help themselves with economic action .
