Building and renovating homes for needy and grandmothers
NIRP Uganda builds, rehabilitates and repairs
simple, decent houses with the help of grandmothers, known as beneficiary
families, volunteer labor, and donations of money and materials. Often,
skilled personnel such as builders, masons and carpenters are employed for
specialist jobs.
NIRP housing support intends to help those community members living on less than a dollar a day to have decent housing. Grandmothers and orphans are mainly targeted in this project. Why grandmothers: Ugandan grandmothers are central to the life of their communities. With almost no support, they have stepped forward to care for hundreds of children orphaned by AIDS, sometimes as many as ten to fifteen in one household. They display astonishing reserves of love, courage and emotional resilience, even while grieving the loss of their own adult children.
NIRP supports grandmothers and the children
in their care with materials that include food, educational supplies,
uniforms and school fees, medical care, HIV counseling and testing,
adequate housing and bedding, counseling and support groups, home
visits, and much more. Grandmothers and their families are supported with income generation projects to create sustainable incomes in their households. Please join us in this campaign, get updates on the plight of grandmothers.
In addition to our support, families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor – “sweat equity” – into building their NIRP house and the houses of others. please join us in this campaign.
