The Privacy Legal Fund (Germany) e.V. (PLF) is a nonprofit public interest organization focussing on human rights in digital networks. We are dedicated to promoting the democratic potential of today's open, decentralized global Internet. Our mission is to develop, implement and support technologies to preserve and enhance free expression, privacy, open access, and other democratic values in the new and increasingly integrated communications medium.
The web is a great tool for sharing ideas and freedom of expression. However, efforts to try and control the Internet are growing worldwide. There are reports about Internet repression in countries like China, Iran, Vietnam, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Syria. People are persecuted and imprisoned simply for criticising their government, calling for democracy and greater press freedom, or exposing human rights abuses, online.
Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right. It is one of the most precious of all rights. The Privacy Legal Fund (Germany) e.V. fights to protect it by seeking practical solutions to enhance free expression and privacy in communication technologies. We promote technologies that empower people to use their rights to communicate, publish and obtain an unprecedented array of information on the Internet such as Tor, I2P, SILC and others.
Many people use the Tor anonymity network to get around governmental censorship. We will set up a new Tor-Server to support the fight for freedom of speech. Your donation will help us to develop, implement and support technologies to preserve and enhance free expression, privacy, open access, and other democratic values all over the world.
