The student-led listening service in Bochum needs your support!

Studying at university can be a turbulent and exciting time in one's life but also a difficult one. Nightline Bochum was established in early 2023 so that Bochum students are not left to their own devices while they navigate uni life and young adulthood. It offers a late-night listening service to anyone feeling the need to talk to someone.

The Nightline is an anonymous and low-threshold helpline for problems of all kinds, which are treated in a non-judgmental and confidential manner. For over two years now, Bochum students have been able to vent their feelings four nights a week using our phone call and chat options. So far, we have been able to be there for people over 1,300 times. 

Of course, running our listening service cannot be done without lots of admin work in the background and: money. 
Our work is based on the commitment of around 50 Bochum student volunteers. Nightline Bochum e.V. relies on donations for the long-term operation of the listening service. Via this campaign, we are collecting donations to cover our running costs. This may sound rather unspectacular at first, but it is the most important form of support, as we cannot finance our fixed costs through other means (funding guidelines of foundations almost always exclude an organization's fixed costs). 

Our fixed costs consist of: 
- Operating our website (around €100 annually)
- Telephone costs (around €10 annually) 
- Notary and court fees for managing our Verein (around €200 annually) 
- Bank account fees (around €60 annually) 

We have already received nearly enough donations to cover the expenses of 2024 (which had been advanced internally by the team). We would like to thank everyone who has already placed a donation, you are awesome! 

We are now fundraising for our fixed costs of 2025.
In case we receive donations that exceed this year's running costs, we will use these additional funds to make our listening service more well-known, to strengthen our long-term team spirit and, if possible, for providing snacks to our listening team members in our office :D 

Nightline Bochum e.V. is a registered association (Verein) and recognized as a non-profit organization by the Bochumer fiscal authority. It exclusively pursues non-profit purposes.
