About this project

S. Fuhrmann from White Unicorn e.V. is responsible for this project
We want to make social participation possible for autistic toddlers in a barrier-sensitive way. Our goal is to raise acceptance among professionals, parents and educators of how the development and support of children can be successful in an autistic-friendly way. Autistic children are the focus here.

Courses and public relations

  • Creation of a pre-survey in simple language, illustrated
  • Online survey of the autistic community on barriers for autistic children of daycare age
  • Development of an observation sheet with evaluation matrix for parents and professionals
  • Raising acceptance among professionals, parents and educators with flyers and information material, distributed in the daycare centers of the AWO Berlin (regional partner)
  • Evaluation of the toddlers' everyday experiences using a picture card game, autistic illustrator for children's and youth books
  • Digitization of the images, with a subsequent presentation for practical application assessment by the autistic online community
  • Workshop developed according to advanced training curriculum
  • The development and support of the autistic child is the focus, evaluation of the results
  • Writing a handout, development check for daycare centers, manual, questionnaires for parents, specialists, picture cards, layout
  • Consolidation: through online course with videos
  • Public relations: social media, press and publication
  • Specialist event at “der Pumpe” (AWO) with Mark Benecke, lecture and workshops, presentation of the results as well as material/further training
  • Participation in the international autism & education-specific scientific conferences ABCT, Autscape as part of the dissemination of the results
  • Workshop offer of the developed training
Goals

We have identified 27 barriers that autistic people face. For example, we know that many autistic people are extremely sensitive to sensory input, so loudness is very often a barrier. What exactly constitutes a barrier at daycare age, the reverberation in the rooms or the bustle at breakfast, is now to be determined.

Collaboration

  • Expert opinion of the Commissioner for the Disabled of the State of Berlin on the assessment of the project
  • Dr. Mark Benecke, also autistic and in the transfer of knowledge
  • Prof. Dr. Michael Kormorek, Vice President, Professorship for Inclusion and Inclusive Organizational Development, EHB Evangelische Hochschule Berlin
Own contribution

We need a personal contribution of 45,000 euros (10% of the funding amount) for the application to Aktion Mensch. In order to get this money together, we ask you to donate in the needs!

Assurance

Every donated Euro will be used for its intended purpose as usual. Even if Aktion Mensch does not take over the project, we will launch it on a small scale, in line with the donations.
