Optimization of the "Leinewelle" with a cleaning function

    Leinewelle e.V.
A project from Leinewelle e.V. in Hannover, Germany
After a year of operation, we discovered that our River was carrying much more sediment than previously suspected. We want to make the time-consuming cleaning of sand easier with the help of a flushing flap and thus enable more surfing days!

    About this project

Heiko Heybey from Leinewelle e.V. is responsible for this project
Due to the long flood, with unusually large areas of land overflowing, a large amount of sand was deposited in the area of the wave system due to the unusually high sediment load.
Unfortunately, moving the facility in conjunction with these amounts of sand carries the risk of damage to the facility, so surfing will not continue until the sand is removed.
So far, we have been able to successfully remove sediment deposits “manually” through the use of our volunteers. This time, however, the sand masses are very large and there are still high amounts of water in the winter storage area, which means that cleaning operations are difficult or impossible at the moment.

The board therefore decided to postpone the cleaning until the beginning of the summer storage target, as a routine draining for the first “full maintenance” was already planned independently of the cleaning of the system. Maintenance with draining is scheduled to begin immediately after the start of the summer storage target from April 2nd. planned.

In order to improve the function of the Enercity line shaft even at high water levels with a lot of sediment, it was decided at the association's annual general meeting that the association would like to use the maintenance of the system to retrofit "flushing flaps". Opening the flaps would make it possible to flush away deposits from underneath the system without having to remove the sediment by hand.
Such flushing flaps were already included as an option in the planning, but were omitted due to a cost-benefit analysis in the construction process.

The Leinewelle e.V. aims to collect the additional costs of approx. 40,000 euros for drainage and optimization through donations from supporters and members.

After maintaining and optimizing the leash shaft, we are looking forward to very special events this summer.
We will be the venue for the finals of the “Rapid Surf League” from June 7th to 9th. The RSL is like the Champions League of rapid surfing. The best surfers in our sport from all over Europe compete against each other here!

Following the RSL surf festival, we look forward to a summer with a focus on diversity and youth work.
There will be a “Surfistas” surfing day at the “Fete de la Music” where everyone who belongs to the FLINTA community can try out surfing under the guidance of the surfistas from our club.
Various youth days and a youth camp are also being planned.

So despite the frustration of still not being able to surf again, we are full of energy preparing for a great season!

    Best regards

    The board of Leinewelle e.V.
