About this project
Our small town of Arnis was particularly affected. Parts of the town and the neighboring village were completely flooded after the protective dike broke. Within a few minutes, entire houses were flooded up to the first floor and had to be evacuated. Miraculously, no people were harmed, but many people in the affected areas had to leave their homes and were unable to enter them even days after the disaster.
While in parts of our little city, everyday life is slowly returning, the affected residents have lost everything overnight. Whether and when they will be able to return to their homes is still uncertain.
In order to be able to help the people who were particularly hard hit by the flooding quickly and unbureaucratically, to give them courage and to give them a perspective, the city council set up a donation account as emergency aid and hardship fund. The fund is intended to provide fast, needs-oriented and targeted support to the citizens who are particularly affected. A committee of city representatives and civic members is to decide on the distribution and use of the donations on the basis of clear criteria. (e.g. only private individuals, only residents and citizens of the city of Arnis/Grödersby, etc.). The fund sees itself as a supplement to the aid promised by the state and federal government.
