About this project

Alison Anderson from Nadia's Initiative e.V. is responsible for this project
Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and a leading advocate for survivors of genocide and sexual violence, had her peaceful life brutally disrupted in 2014 when ISIS attacked her homeland in Sinjar as part of their campaign to ethnically cleanse Iraq of all Yazidis. Since her escape from ISIS captivity, she has shared her story to raise awareness about the genocidal campaign led by ISIS against her community and fellow survivors. Nadia has become a powerful advocate for women in conflict settings and survivors of sexual violence worldwide.

Much of Nadia's advocacy work focuses on meeting with global leaders to shed light on the continued plight of the Yazidi people and conflict-related sexual violence around the world and promoting women’s rights. She is also the President and Chairwoman of Nadia's Initiative, actively working to persuade governments and international organizations to support survivors and hold ISIS accountable for their crimes of genocide and sexual violence. Furthermore, Nadia is the author of her memoir, 'The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity and My Fight Against the Islamic State.
