    About this project

    G. Deden from SOS LANKA ACTION LIMITED is responsible for this project
We have identified the dire need of toilets to be built or reinstated in a small village near Colombo where the poor do not have the means to get their own sanitary facilities. There is practically no privacy for people to excrete and the disposal of feces is a huge problem. Much of this seeps into the water table beneath the village. Note that the villagers' water needs are met by private or communal local water wells. In 2012 there were heavy and often long-lasting rainfalls, greatly increasing the potential of fast-spreading, fatal diseases.
Our site team of two volunteers have finished building one 'pilot toilet' in October and aim to build a maximum of 30 toilets for various families in 2013. Approximately 100 poor people will then have their own basic toilets thereby drastically reducing the risk of contagious and potentially deadly diseases such as cholera. We were able to raise funds to build 10 toilets and now need sufficient funds to build 20 more. A donation of Euros 400.00 will suffice to build one toilet.
