Who owns the city? Who lives on public green spaces and who decides what happens there? The Organisms Democracy on the green space Osloer Str. 107/108 in Berlin, which has been in place since 2019, finds completely new answers to these questions.
We have established a
popular democracy of organisms there on our national territory, based on the
Universal Declaration of Organismal Rights. This goes back to an idea of the evolutionary biologist
Dr. Hannes Anbelang from Helsinki. As early as 1907, Anbelang wrote in his diary that the
struggle for justice could only be meaningfully conducted if it included all living beings, i.e. if no organism was denied the right to a good and free life.
Organisms Democracy is a
constitutional form of government based on the principle of separation of powers. There is a government, a constitutional court and the legislature: the parliament of organism democracy is the political representation of all citizens living in the national territory. In order to determine the exact composition of the species of female citizens, regular censuses take place. Citizens are all verifiable species living in the national territory.
From the
seven fractions bacteria protozoa viruses, fungi mosses lichens, arthropods, vertebrates, worms and molluscs, woody plants and climbers, herbs grasses perennials, 2 species each are drawn by lot as parliamentary representatives of their species and their fraction.
In addition, one species from the group of
neobiota will be drawn per parliament, across all species, in order to ensure that this growing number of living beings in the context of globalisation is represented in parliament.
All
species drawn into Parliament are represented by a human person. This human person commits to safeguarding the interests of the drawn species and the organism fraction. The representative of an organism is sworn in on the constitution; she has the right and the duty to bring conflicts of coexistence, proposals for solutions and legislative proposals to the parliament.
The
5th Parliament of Organisms in Berlin-Wedding will meet on 18 June 2022. The aim of this fundraising campaign is to be able to organise the session. The public initiative funding for the project has expired and we now need funds to be able to pay for e.g. the technology for an open-air debate, refreshing drinks for the parliamentarians and, if necessary, a small allowance.
Anyone interested in continuing this
revolutionary artistic project for the expansion of democracy is cordially invited to support us with a small donation.
However, everyone is welcome to attend the parliamentary session as a visitor or to sign up for the democratic representation of a species. More information is available at
