About this project

Svijet u Slikama (SUS) sees diversity as a puzzle. Assembled with love results in a great unity - a world for everyone. In particular, Svijet u Slikama helps autistic children to be included in society. By educating parents and anyone who is interested, SUS would also like to ensure that we openly perceive and accept “the colorful things” in life.

Svijet u Slikama is a small non-profit organization in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded by six young and dedicated teachers in 2012. Translated, Svijet u Slikama means "world in pictures".

What exactly does Svijet u Slikama do?
The 11-strong team of therapists looks after up to 30 children with an autism spectrum disorder - each in their free time and free of charge - i.e. passionately volunteering alongside a full-time job, mostly as a teacher! SUS offers parents who come from particularly poor backgrounds free care.

SUS treats all children according to scientifically based methods. It is very important to the SUS team to maintain and increase the level of their own qualifications.

The aim is to promote children in essential communication skills such as:
  • searching for help
  • dealing with rejection
  • responding to Important “Follow Instructions”

Circumstances in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Parents of children with autism don't bring up the autism spectrum disorder as if it were a taboo subject. From their point of view, the society in the poor country has bigger problems and in the best case no acceptance, in the worst case even an outspoken attitude.

What the donations are used for
  • rent for the rooms
  • 2 times the full-time therapist salary for the provision of one thousand therapy hours per year
  • uniform work clothes for the therapists (less distraction for the children)
  • budget for "therapeutic riding" and other community activities for therapist teams and families
  • budget for "Autism Day"; Participation in exhibition to be able to clarify

Facts about Svijet u Slikama (SUS)
  • Angela is the first full-time employee since February 2022
  • 5 children are on the waiting list and cannot be treated yet
  • group sessions with children do not take place
  • the therapy takes place intensively one-to-one between child and therapist
  • SUS regularly trains and informs parents as part of workshops
  • the youngest child SUS has looked after was 9 months old
  • the oldest child that SUS has cared for so far was 11 years old and was treated for 8 years
  • every SUS team member is there with ❤️
