Mach's einfach - arriving in motion

    GSJ-Gesellschaft für Sport und Jugendsozialarbeit
A project from GSJ-Gesellschaft für Sport und Jugendsozialarbeit in Berlin, Germany
Due to the war in Ukraine, we offer refugee children and young people initial structure: even if it is not clear how long they can and will stay in Berlin - open sports activities and welcome festivals help them to arrive here.

    About this project

Silke Lauriac from GSJ-Gesellschaft für Sport und Jugendsozialarbeit is responsible for this project
Berlin, as the main and largest city in the immediate vicinity of the Polish border, is the first and most obvious stop in Germany for many refugees due to the Ukraine war. How many more people will come as part of the refugee movement and how many of them will stay in Berlin permanently is not foreseeable today - in May 2022.

Mach's einfach is an offer for children and young people who have fled because of the war in Ukraine. It takes into account the precarious situation of the arrivals, who ask themselves: Can we stay in Berlin? Will we find a flat? Will we get a place at school? When? Where?
We don't know how long the war will last, how many more people will come to Berlin and be able to stay, how long it will take to create enough school places.
Until all these questions are clarified, we can at least give the children and young people some structure and initial opportunities to learn German with our offers.

    Sport offers a low-threshold and easy-to-explain access
to Berlin's children's and youth culture. In sport, initial language contacts take place in a playful way, communication happens incidentally and purposefully. Furthermore, sport has positive effects on psychological stress. As a large provider of sport-oriented youth social work, we can react professionally and quickly to further needs: Sports and social pedagogues have an open ear and a large network if further help is needed.

We are flexible in our youth leisure facilities: open (sports) offers combined with fixed course offers enable a modular offer that offers reliability as well as a place where children and young people are welcome at any time. This is flanked by welcome festivals, which not only relieve the burden on the refugees, but are also open to welcoming families, volunteers and other regular visitors and enable people to meet.

    Your donation makes possible

    • Welcome festivals in Pankow and Reinickendorf
    • Equipment and implementation of permanent courses for refugees,
    • Equipment and implementation of open offers in which new and old Berliners can meet,
    • Public relations work for the offers.
