In order to be able to achieve our goals, the NGO Care Net Ghana depends on external funding which is often tied to particular projects. Therefore, the sustainability of Care Net’s work is many a times difficult to ensure. Therefore, current expenses (e.g. salaries, electricity and water bills) of former projects which have already been funded completely cannot be paid any more. This leads to projects being stopped as soon as financial resources get exhausted.
Becoming less dependent on donor funding is one of Care Net’s main desires.
The idea behind this project is to raise enough money to open a restaurant located next to the NGO building (see picture). This restaurant is intended to help Care Net generate regular income by selling selected dishes cooked by local cooks at affordable prices to volunteers and to Hohoe residents. By offering popular dishes originated in the Volta Region as well as continental food inspired by the volunteers’ home countries, the Care Net restaurant tries to establish a connection between the people of Hohoe and the interns of the NGO coming from all over the world.
It is supposed to be a place where the old and the young, Ghanaians and foreigners come together and exchange their points of view in order to expand their horizons and to learn from each other. The restaurant would be the first of its kind in Hohoe to make the different cultures meet.
Once the restaurant is established and regular income is generated, it will become easier for Care Net to implement projects as soon as a need is detected, without the lengthy process of fundraising.
