Why does this project need to be done? : SPREAWS identified 2 remote villages in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh, India. The villages are very backward and lack drinking water facility. One of the most essential human needs is clean and accessible drinking water. The women have to walk long distance with the plastic pots overhead or by the hips to bring water from open wells, lakes, rivers which are unprotected source. The domestic pressure for water, fuel and fodder falls primarily on the women. 80% of the rural women spend their time and energy to bring the water from long distance instead of participating in income-generating work. Thus they live with extreme poverty. Many rural girls spend most of their time to carry water instead of going to school. Lack of water and unclean water leads to several diseases that affect children, women and aged specially. Safe drinking water and sanitation are crucial to health and development. However, the gift of 'clean water' continues to heal. It truly is a life-saving solution. In order to improve the health status of the community through sanitation and hygiene, and to mitigate the drinking water scarcity problems, it needs the installation of new water wells in our 2 target villages.
Proposed Beneficiaries :- 304 families i.e., 1457 people (women, men, children, old age people) will benefit through the project.
Planned activities briefly:- With the budget of EUR 2,500 we will install 2 Borewells in 2 villages within 2 months, in the following methods:
1) Conducting of Geological survey to find under ground water deposits, 2) Drilling of Borewells down up to 500 feet underneath depth at center of every village. 3) Build platform & Water run off channel around the borehole 4) Inserting GI Pipes into the drilled well and fixing of the Hand Pump.5) Formation of Village Water Committees and Provide training to these committee members on the use of / repair and sustainability of the Borewells, 6) Provide training on Health & Hygiene to the village people by the health worker, 7) Monitoring & Evaluation by SPREAWS once in a month.
Expected Impacts :- Provision of sustainable safe water will improve the lives of the people in several ways viz., 'greater availability of time for children, particularly girls to spend more time in school, for women to engage in income generating activities; people want safe from waterborne pathogens, like cholera; adopting hygiene practices through frequent hand washing with soaps will be helpful for Corona Virus outbreak prevention'.
