Kibera Sport Development Programme

managed by Vincent O.

About us

Kibera is one of Africa’s largest slums based in Nairobi, Kenya. The Kibera Sport Development is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to develop athletes as well as impart sports-related skills in the Children and Youth in Kibera. It is an all-encompassing program that encourages parents and their children to interact in a unique social program; interesting life-skills, competitive sports/sport development and HIV/Aids sensitization.
There are over 400,000 kids living in the vast Kibera slums. Too many of these kids are being lost. They’re becoming school dropouts, teen parents, and victims of violence and HIV/Aids orphans. They struggle to survive against the odds. What they lack are essential life skills and lessons – how to behave well, make good decisions, build healthy relationships. We try to build the capacity of the Kibera children, and using sports and education as key tools, train them to gradually sustain and scale up themselves and their activities by offering them the opportunity to reach their potential and progressively scale up and bear the entire weight themselves.
We know that education is the most vital part in changing a child's future. We also believe that athletic training is essentially a more promising career path, which is why our program offers education alongside athletic programs all the way through school. Children in our program receive school fees and supplies, such as uniforms and books. All children under the ‘Running for education’ scholarships live at our high altitude training camp during the school holidays whereby they are engaged in various athletic training and life-skills programs.

Donations that cannot be used for the project

Dear donors,
when managers of a project haven't requested a payout over the course of a longer period, the German law and our terms of use provide that we (gut.org gemeinnützige AG, operator of betterplace.org) use the money for our tax-deductible purposes. The same applies to the cancellation of a project, where the manager of the project is unable to realize it.

Therefore we will use these donations for the following purposes

Thanks for your support,
the betterplace.org-team
