The mission of this innovative project is to educate children who are in precarious family situations where poverty, drug abuse, physical/sexual abuse, gangs and other criminal activity are an unfortunate part of daily life. Through comedy and mime skills students will discover how to respect themselves and others when taught that they can make a living through this art. Individual and cooperative (teamwork) learning skills will provide a venue for these students to become contributing/working Nicaraguans.
Since April 2001 the School of Comedy and Mime focus all efforts in ten youngsters aged today 16 to 21 years who are the core group. The project not only provides them theater, mime, clowning, dance, masks and circus skills training but also takes care of their education, nutrition, health and human development as they all come from very poor families. Although before joining the school some of them were in gangs or at risk loosing time in their neighborhood non were into drugs yet. We act as a preventive project.
Through all these years the kids have performed over 400 times in streets, parks, schools, theaters, circus-tents, elderly-homes, hotels, beaches, etc. to big and small audiences in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Venezuela, Spain, France, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Also have been mime and circus trainers since 2003 for approximately 1,200 children and youngsters in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Germany.
In February 2009 the Children School of Comedy and Mime will open be opened for the first 40 children 8 to 11 years old meanwhile the school building is ready in a 3,618 square meters property we own donated by Equal Education Fund (Switzerland). The property is in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Granada.
The requested donation together with others we have been able to raise will help to fix our big problem with the project water. Due to bad construction our water tank leaking started 5 years ago during the dry season ad stopped during the rainy season. Two years ago leaking didn't stopped.
Another tank will be built inside the water tank and builder guarantees it will work.
Let's hope it will
