Kantui is an English Medium pre and primary school with a capacity for 200 children. It accept both day and boarding students on a spacious campus, located in the Ruaha Ward of Kilosa District in Morogoro Region of Tanzania in East Africa. The teaching and boarding facilities are part of a large facility which was a camp for seasonal cane cutters in this area which is known for sugar cane production. The school has been operating since 1998 under the direction of Mrs. Susan Nkandala, the school founder and trustee. Mrs Nkandala started the school in a very small household location and has grown in just 13 years to almost full capacity at this campus. The mission of Kantui is to plant the seeds of education in each child and his or her family so that the lives of the whole community may be improved for the better. As this school is the only one offering a strong program in English it has become a leader in such education, locally. With additional resources and some physical improvements the school is poised to bring the small towns of its region into a global learning community. Presently the school has the basic facilities of classrooms, desks and boarding areas. It also has a small library, small computer area and a great deal of outdoor space for further development. However, the basic maintenance and repair needs of this facility are many, including cracked and gouged cement floors, poor ceilings with leaks in the alumimun sheets, a need of refurbishing the windows with new mosquito netting as well as added shelving in the library, computer stations which are working, an enclosed area for dining and assembly, improving on the existing music program, adding art materials for the on site art studio and establishing a safe and modern playground for the 152 students who are currently registered. Still, even with these issues Kantui continues to move forward with its programs, including registration with evironmental programs and plans for entrepeneurship development, cultural activities and providing access to the wider community for English and Early Learning activities.
Therefore we will use these donations for the following purposes:
